Meet the 2024 H.A.R.L.E.M Scholarship Recipient!

Kylie McCoy, Pace University
Class of 2027

Kylie McCoy, a first-year Criminal Justice major at Pace University, has found her college experience both exciting and challenging. Growing up in Harlem, in a very close-knit community, Kylie was able to adjust well to the smaller campus feel of Pace University and the independence of living away from home. Inspired by skilled detectives, Kylie's passion for criminal justice led her to pursue a degree in the field. Her favorite class, Introduction to Criminal Justice, has further fueled her interest.

Beyond academics, Kylie is involved in extracurricular activities like the Criminal Justice Club and is considering joining the intramural volleyball team. A memorable experience was participating in a research project on the psychological effects of incarceration.

Looking ahead, Kylie is eager to delve deeper into her studies, build lasting friendships, and explore career paths in Criminal Justice. College has already taught her a lot about herself and the world.

Eligibility:

  • You must be a graduating high school senior that lives in Harlem or attends a school in Harlem OR you must be a freshman and/or a rising sophomore currently enrolled in a College or University.

  • You must be enrolled in a College or University for the Fall 2024 semester.

  • You must write a minimum 500 word personal statement

  • Applications close on Sunday, June 30th at 11:59pm.

Stipend:

  • The award amount will be $2000 and will be issued to the college or university of the recipient’s choosing.

Application Criteria:

Submit a minimum 500 word personal statement discussing a time where you have faced adversity and overcame it. Please do not exceed 1000 words.
